Floras Lake is one of Oregon's best kitesurfing spots, a freshwater coastal lake located near Langlois on the south coast. This lake is separated from the Pacific Ocean by a narrow strip of dunes, creating a flat and protected body of water ideal for learning and progression. Unlike Oregon's dangerous ocean beaches, Floras Lake offers accessible conditions with shallow water and no waves. Northwest thermal winds are channeled by the coastal terrain, providing regular and reliable sessions from May to September.
Fresh lake water, warmer than the ocean (14-20°C in summer). 3/2 wetsuit often sufficient in summer, 4/3 in spring. Flat water without waves, ideal for freestyle and learning. Shallow water across much of the lake, allowing riders to stand. Northwest thermal winds at 15-25 knots, regular in summer. The lake is modestly sized, offering sufficient but limited space in strong wind.

Open all year round
Limited lake size: be careful not to drift onto shores or into dunes. Aquatic vegetation in some areas that can catch lines or fins. Dune strip between lake and ocean: do not attempt to cross to the ocean, deadly conditions. Winds can be gusty due to surrounding terrain. Cool water that can cause hypothermia during extended sessions. Respect protected wildlife areas around the lake.
