Campground Soundside is the sound side of the NPS (National Park Service) campground on Ocracoke Island. This campground is one of the only budget accommodations on the island and is very popular with kitesurfers. The soundside of the campground opens directly onto Pamlico Sound with flat and shallow water. It's the dream spot for kite camping — step out of your tent and you're at the water. Ideal conditions for beginners. Campground reservations recommended well in advance for summer.

Flat water on Pamlico Sound — perfect conditions for learning and freestyle. Very shallow with sandy bottom. Water is warm in summer. The body of water is vast and never crowded. Unique camping and kite atmosphere — sunrise and sunset sessions right from the campground.
Stingrays — do the stingray shuffle. Jellyfish in summer. Oyster shells possible — water shoes recommended. Remote island — no hospital, limited rescue. Mosquitoes very present at the campground in the evening — be prepared. Afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer.
