Westerly thermal winds are moderate in this river section, offering accessible conditions. The spot is popular with Portland riders looking for an alternative to the Gorge spots.
Fresh water from the Columbia River, cool to temperate (13-20°C in summer). 3/2 wetsuit in summer, 4/3 in spring and fall. Moderate river current. Generally flat surface with slight chop during thermal winds. Westerly winds at 12-22 knots in summer, less powerful than in the Gorge. Wide waterway near Sauvie Island with shallow areas.
