Generally flat surface with slight chop during thermal winds. Westerly winds at 12-22 knots in summer, less powerful than in the Gorge. Wide waterway near Sauvie Island with shallow areas.
River traffic: frequent barges, tugboats, and recreational boats. River current that can carry riders downstream. Proximity to Sauvie Island with protected wildlife areas. Power lines in some areas: check before riding. Cold water outside summer. Heavy recreational boat traffic on weekends. Shallow areas with possible submerged tree stumps.
