Overview

Mile 31 is an oceanside spot in the northern section of Hatteras Island, between Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe. The name refers to the mileage marker on NC Highway 12. The beach is completely wild, part of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge — one of the most isolated sections of the Outer Banks. No development, no houses — just ocean and dunes. Access via Route 12 then on foot. Excellent for wave kiting in a totally pristine setting.
