North Harbour is a soundside spot at the north end of Ocracoke Island, near the small ferry arrival port from Hatteras. The spot offers access to Pamlico Sound in a sheltered harbor area. The water is flat and shallow. The atmosphere is unique on Ocracoke — an island accessible only by ferry, with no bridge, preserving an old-time charm. North Harbour is convenient as it's the first water access when arriving by ferry from Hatteras.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Flat water on Pamlico Sound in a relatively sheltered area. Shallow depth. Sandy bottom with seagrass. Conditions are good for freeride and freestyle. Be careful not to ride too close to the ferry navigation channel.
Ferry traffic — stay clear of the navigation channel. Stingrays present. Jellyfish in summer. Oyster shells — water shoes recommended. Inlet proximity to the north — don't drift northward. Afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer. Remote island — medical rescue is limited on Ocracoke.
