Frisco Soundside Turnout is a Pamlico Sound access point located along NC Highway 12 in Frisco on Hatteras Island. This roadside turnout provides direct and easy access to the sound. The body of water is vast and shallow, perfect for flat water kitesurfing. It's a convenient spot as parking is right at the water's edge, making gear transport easy. The bottom is sandy and depth remains shallow for a long distance. Ideal for beginners and freestyle.
Flat water on Pamlico Sound — excellent for freestyle, freeride and learning. Very shallow depth, you can stand for a long distance. Sandy bottom with some seagrass patches. Consistent and predictable conditions. In thermal SW wind (most common in summer), wind comes from the sound and conditions are perfectly flat.

Stingrays in shallow water — do the stingray shuffle. Sea nettles (jellyfish) common in summer. Sharp oyster shells possible — wear water shoes. Violent afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer with lightning risk. Proximity to NC Highway 12 — watch for traffic when carrying gear. In strong NE wind, water level can drop significantly.
