Hood River Marina is a kitesurfing spot located in the Hood River port on the Columbia River, in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. Adjacent to the famous Sandbar, the marina offers an additional river access point with full facilities (parking, restrooms, showers, restaurants). It is a central spot for the Gorge kite and windsurf community, with numerous schools and rental shops nearby. The legendary westerly thermal winds blow from May to September.
Fresh water from the Columbia River, cool (12-18°C in summer). 3/2 to 4/3 wetsuit recommended. Constant current of 3-5 km/h westward. Short chop typical of the Gorge created by wind against current. Reliable thermal winds from the west at 20-35 knots from May to September. Marina area with sheltered waters for beginners, more open water beyond for experienced riders.

Very crowded spot: many riders, windsurfers, and foilers to watch for. Constant river current that can carry riders downstream. Barges and commercial traffic on the main channel. Winds can ramp up quickly to 40+ knots. Marina infrastructure (docks, buoys) to avoid. Swimming and recreational boating zones to respect. Cold water that can cause hypothermia.
