Frisco Pier is an oceanside spot in Frisco on Hatteras Island, near the old Frisco fishing pier (destroyed by Hurricane Isabel in 2003, ruins still visible). The beach is wide and wild, part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The spot offers good wave conditions with east to southeast swells. The pier (or its remains) creates an area of interest for surfing, but kitesurfers must ride at a safe distance from the structures. Good alternative to Cape Point when conditions are too strong further south.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Ocean waves coming mainly from east to southeast. The pier remains create local currents and interesting waves nearby. Moderate shore break on this section of beach. Sandy bottom with shifting sandbars. Conditions are good in NE to SE side-shore to side-onshore winds. The beach faces southeast, capturing dominant swells well.
Pier remains underwater — do not ride too close to submerged structures (collision risk). Rip currents possible. Shore break can be powerful. Stingrays in shallow water. Sea nettles (jellyfish) in summer. Afternoon thunderstorms with lightning possible in summer. Debris possible on the sea floor near the old pier.
