Windmill is a soundside spot in Nags Head on Bodie Island, on the Roanoke Sound side. The name refers to a former windmill in the area. The spot provides access to Roanoke Sound (smaller than Pamlico Sound but equally enjoyable for kiting). The water is flat and shallow, perfect for learning. Roanoke Sound separates Bodie Island from Roanoke Island. It's a convenient spot for Nags Head visitors who want to ride flat water without having to drive down to Hatteras Island.
Open all year round

Stingrays present — do the stingray shuffle. Jellyfish in summer. Oyster shells possible — water shoes recommended. Boat traffic possible on Roanoke Sound — stay alert. Afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer.
