Horse Shoe Cove is a sheltered cove located at the northern tip of Sandy Hook, on the bay side, in the Gateway National Recreation Area. This spot offers flat and protected waters, perfect for beginners and skill building. The horseshoe-shaped cove naturally protects from waves while letting the wind through. One of the best flat water spots in the Sandy Hook area.

Flat and protected waters in the cove. Very little chop even in strong wind. Shallow to moderate depth. Moderate tidal currents. Sandy and muddy bottom. Ideal conditions for learning.
Shallow areas at low tide with risk of touching bottom. Muddy bottom making walking difficult. Boat traffic at the cove entrance. National park regulations to follow.
