The wide sandy beach with west exposure offers excellent kitesurfing conditions. The Grand River channel is nearby with its iconic jetties.

Lake Michigan water body with full west exposure. West to northwest winds generate waves of 1 to 2 meters, sometimes more in storms. Cold water — full wetsuit required except in midsummer (July-August). Sandy bottom with gradual slope. Longshore currents possible in strong winds. Excellent regular surf conditions.
Longshore and rip currents possible in strong west winds. Grand River channel jetties to avoid — very dangerous currents. Boat traffic in the channel. Cold Lake Michigan water with hypothermia risk. Extremely busy beach in summer — thousands of visitors. Violent thunderstorms possible with lightning risk. Commercial shipping offshore.
