Petoskey State Park is a kitesurf spot located in Little Traverse Bay, on Lake Michigan, near Petoskey, Michigan. This state park is famous for its Petoskey stones (coral fossils) and pebble beaches. Little Traverse Bay offers semi-sheltered conditions, calmer than open Lake Michigan. Petoskey is a charming northern Michigan resort town with its historic Gaslight District. Magnificent setting with wooded hills as backdrop.
Little Traverse Bay water body, semi-sheltered with moderate chop conditions. The bay protects from open Lake Michigan's large waves. Northwest to west winds generate organized chop in the bay. Very cold water — full wetsuit required except in midsummer. Pebble and sand bottom (watch for Petoskey stones!). Conditions suited for freeride and wingfoil.

Very cold water with hypothermia risk. Pebble bottom that can cause injury during falls in shallow water. Boat traffic in summer with recreational boats and sailboats in the bay. Violent thunderstorms possible in summer with lightning risk — exit water immediately. State park — respect regulations. Frequent swimmers and kayakers along the shore.
