Barton's is a soundside spot located between the villages of Waves and Rodanthe on Hatteras Island. The spot is named after a local landowner and provides access to Pamlico Sound. It's an intermediate spot as the riding area can be more exposed to gusts and the bottom may have more pronounced oyster shell areas. The body of water is vast and shallow, typical of Pamlico Sound. Good freeride spot with more space and fewer crowds than popular spots in the main villages.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Flat to slightly choppy water on Pamlico Sound. Shallow depth over a large area. Sandy bottom with oyster shell patches. Good conditions for freeride and freestyle. The spot can be more wind-exposed than sheltered village accesses, sometimes offering more pronounced gusts.
Sharp oyster shells more pronounced in this area — water shoes strongly recommended. Stingrays present. Sea nettles (jellyfish) in summer. Violent afternoon thunderstorms possible in summer. Less frequented spot — ride with a buddy. In strong NE wind, sound water level can drop significantly.
