South Haven North Beach is a kitesurf spot located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, in South Haven, southwestern Michigan. This sandy beach north of the channel offers direct west exposure on Lake Michigan. South Haven is a popular tourist destination with its iconic red lighthouse and award-winning beaches. West and northwest winds generate regular waves for surfing.
Lake Michigan water body with full west exposure. West to northwest winds generate waves of 1 to 2 meters. Cold water — full wetsuit required except in midsummer (July-August). Sandy bottom with gradual slope. Longshore currents possible along the coast in strong winds. Channel jetties can create local wind effects.
