Monte Verde is the main kite spot on São Miguel and the Azores. Former whaling station on the north coast, 25 km from Ponta Delgada. The Nortada (NE trade winds from the Azores High) blows 13-30 knots, May to October. Wind is side-onshore from the left, allowing thrilling rides along the coastline.

Waves vary from mellow rollers to challenging swells. Clear Atlantic water. Mornings are calmer (good for beginners), afternoons stronger for advanced. Volcanic landscape adds a spectacular backdrop. Nearby attractions: Sete Cidades crater lakes, Miradouro da Boca do Inferno.
