Overview

Mondello is Palermo's most famous beach, nestled in a bay between Monte Pellegrino and Capo Gallo. This urban spot offers a magnificent setting with turquoise waters and Art Nouveau architecture. The semi-enclosed bay protects the water and provides accessible conditions.

The spot works mainly with Maestrale (NW) and Tramontana (N) winds that enter the bay. It is a good spot for kitesurfing, wingfoil and windsurfing, with a relatively calm body of water inside the bay. The proximity to Palermo makes it a very popular spot in summer.

Parking
Paid parking along the Mondello seafront. Difficult parking in summer, especially at weekends. Public car parks exist in the adjacent streets. Bus from Palermo city centre (line 806).
Wind specificities
The bay is open to the north, so Maestrale (NW) and Tramontana (N) winds are the most effective. Monte Pellegrino (600m) creates channelling effects and accelerations. Southerly winds are blocked by the terrain.
Hazards
Beach very crowded with swimmers in summer: sail at a good distance from the swimming zone. Rocks at the foot of Monte Pellegrino and Capo Gallo. Possible currents at the entrance to the bay in strong wind.
