Kijkduin is a family-friendly kitesurf and windsurf spot south of Scheveningen, near the Zandmotor artificial sandbank. Known as a great beginner and intermediate spot — more sheltered and less crowded than Scheveningen. Kiteboardschool.nl and Kitesurfspot.nl both operate here.
Wide beach, relatively flat water, excellent conditions for learning. The nearby Zandmotor (artificial sandbank) creates a sheltered lagoon area popular with beginners and freestylers. NKV designated zone. Year-round accessible. Tram connection from Den Haag Centraal (tram 17 to Kijkduin).
Kiteboardschool.nl (IKO school — main school for beginners at Kijkduin). Kitesurfspot.nl (school and SUP rental, beach pavilion). Zandmotor kite area: ideal first spot for beginners.
Intermediate
Open all year round
Paid parking at Kijkduin beach. Access from Den Haag via N211. Tram 17 from Den Haag Centraal to Kijkduin end stop. GPS: Kijkduin beach, Den Haag.
North Sea tidal range. Do not launch in front of the harbour. No kiting in swimming zones (June–August). Respect NKV zone boundaries. Currents at the Zandmotor tip. Wetsuit required.
SW/W/NW/N/NE all work onshore. Conditions similar to Scheveningen but more sheltered near the Zandmotor. Slightly more protected from strong winds — better for beginners in gusts. Year-round potential. Best spring/autumn.
