Overview

Katwijk aan Zee is a North Sea kitesurf spot in South Holland, near the mouth of the Rhine canal. Wide sandy beach with good SW/W/NW exposure. NKV designated kite zone. Intermediate level — waves and currents require North Sea experience. Year-round kitable.

Small seaside town with good amenities. Located between Scheveningen and Noordwijk — good option when those spots are crowded. Year-round access. Known for sailing culture (Katwijk is a traditional fishing village). Also nearby: the Savornin Lohmanpad (ID 15671) and Zandmotor alternatives.

Parking

Paid parking at Katwijk beach. Access via N206 from Leiden. GPS: Katwijk aan Zee, South Holland.

Hazards

Strong North Sea currents at certain tides. Waves depending on wind strength. NKV zone rules apply. Wetsuit required. Groynes (breakwaters) in the water area. Busy in summer. No kiting in swimming zones.

Wind specificities

SW/W/NW/N/NE onshore. Wind typically 15–25 knots in good season. Year-round accessible. Best months: March–May and September–November. Conditions similar to Scheveningen but slightly less crowded.
