Oum Labouir (also spelled Foum Labouir or Oum Lamboiur) is Dakhla's most famous wave spot and host of the annual GKA Kite World Cup. Located on the Atlantic coast near the northern entrance of Dakhla town, just a few steps from the Westpoint Dakhla hotel.
A legendary right-hand point break — long, clean waves wrapping around the rocky point, with hollow sections breaking into a sandy bay. NW swells roll around the peninsula tip creating rides of several hundred metres. The spot where the world's best wave riders (Mitu Monteiro, Matchu Lopes, etc.) compete each year.
Wind is side-offshore (from the north), which can be gusty and tricky near the point but becomes powerful and consistent towards the beach. Best wave season: October-March when NW swells are biggest. September-October = sweet spot for both wind and waves. Also excellent for pure surfing on windless days.
Accessible by regular car (unlike most Dakhla ocean spots). About 15-20 min drive from the lagoon camps.
Westpoint Dakhla hotel right at the spot. ION CLUB excursions from White Dune Canyon. Most lagoon camps organize trips to Oum Labouir (Dakhla Attitude, Ocean Vagabond, Dakhla Spirit, New Spirit, Dreamkite). GKA Kite World Cup held annually here.
Atlantic — right-hand point break. Long waves wrapping around rocky point into sandy bay. Rides up to several hundred metres. Side-offshore wind (N). Gusty near the point, stronger towards the beach. Waves 0.5-3m+ depending on swell. Kites 7-12m. Rocky bottom at the point, sandy in the bay.
