Portovenere is a magnificent village listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, at the entrance to the Gulf of La Spezia. This spot offers an exceptional setting between the Ligurian Sea and the Cinque Terre, with views of the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. The spot is exposed to southwest winds (Libeccio) and south winds (Ostro) entering the gulf. Conditions can be challenging as the spot is open to the sea. Sailing in front of the San Pietro church perched on the rock is an unforgettable experience.
Paid parking at the entrance to Portovenere (the village is pedestrian). Very limited and expensive spaces in summer. Possible to come by boat from La Spezia.
Hazards
Rocky coast with cliffs. Currents between Portovenere and Palmaria Island. Southwest swell can be strong. Maritime traffic (tourist boats, ferries). Spot reserved for experienced riders.
