Porto Cesareo is one of the most popular kitesurfing spots in Salento, in southern Puglia. The town is surrounded by a marine protected area with crystal-clear waters. The main spot is in the bay, offering a semi-protected body of water with accessible conditions. The Porto Cesareo area has several launch points (Torre Chianca, La Strea, Le Dune) allowing sailing according to wind direction. The setting is magnificent with turquoise waters and sandy bottoms.
Car parks along the seafront, paid in summer (5-8 EUR/day). Several beach access points from the coastal road. Free parking slightly further from the centre.
Wind specificities
Tramontana (N) and Maestrale (NW) are the dominant winds, blowing cross-shore to offshore on the Ionian coast. Sirocco (SE) and Scirocco-Levante bring onshore conditions with chop. Thermal wind present in summer afternoons.
Hazards
Marine protected area: respect sailing restrictions. Very busy swimming area in summer. Rocks and posidonia in places. Possible current at the bay entrance.
