Overview

Costa Rei is one of the most beautiful kitesurf spots on the southeast coast of Sardinia, in the municipality of Muravera. The long white sandy beach faces east and benefits from an exceptionally wide wind window — from north-northeast all the way around through south. The thermal sea breeze and Maestrale both reach this coast. The water is extraordinarily clear and the beach retains a wild character despite being increasingly popular. A top destination on the southeast Sardinian coast.

Spot currently open :-)

Parking

Multiple parking areas along the Costa Rei road, accessible from Muravera via the SP17. Services in Costa Rei village (restaurants, accommodation, shops). Busy in July-August — arrive early.

Hazards

Rocky sections at both ends of the beach — stay in the sandy central zone. Wind can be strong with gusts. Some boat traffic along the Costa Rei. Respect swimming zones during summer. No lifeguard on wilder sections.

Wind specificities

Costa Rei benefits from a wide wind window covering both the Maestrale (northwest) and Levante (southeast). The Maestrale blows 15 to 25 knots in summer, typically afternoons. The Levante arrives in distinct episodes of 2-3 days, often stronger. The relatively straight southeast-facing coastline means the Levante hits the beach at a good angle for riding. Thermal sea breeze from the east also provides lighter sessions on calm synoptic days.
