Spot functioning map

Spot functioning

The spot is divided into two main zones: the lagoon side (flat water, shallow sandy bottom, ideal for beginners and schools) and the open sea side (more sustained chop, for experienced riders). Kite and windsurf schools organise sessions with marked zones. In high season the spot is very busy — follow instructor guidelines and respect designated areas.

On the water

Lagoon side: flat to very slightly choppy water, sandy bottom at 0.5-1.5m, ideal for learning and progression. Sea side: short regular chop of 0.3 to 0.8m in strong Maestrale. No breaking waves. Current is weak in the lagoon but can be stronger in the main channel.

Wind specificities

The Maestrale funnels into the channel between the Sardinian coast and the La Maddalena archipelago with exceptional regularity and power. It typically blows 15 to 35 knots in summer, usually from 11am to 6pm, with a notable acceleration in mid-afternoon. The wind is thermally reinforced — it starts gently in the morning and builds progressively. Gusts are frequent but generally predictable. The Levante (southeast) provides an alternative outside Maestrale episodes.
