Elmers Island is a kitesurf spot located on a barrier island south of Lafourche Parish, on the Gulf of Mexico. It is one of the few Louisiana spots with real ocean access and Gulf waves. The Elmers Island Wildlife Refuge offers a wild and preserved beach with warm waters and possible surf in south swell. The bay side (north) offers flatter conditions. Access is via the road connecting Grand Isle to the mainland.

The access road can be flooded during storms. The wildlife refuge may have seasonal access restrictions.
