Waikiki is Hawaii's most famous beach spot, located on Oahu's south coast in Honolulu. The birthplace of modern surfing, this iconic beach offers wind conditions created by northeast trade winds crossing the Ko'olau mountain range. WARNING: kitesurfing is heavily regulated or prohibited in the main Waikiki area due to the extreme density of swimmers, surfers, and watercraft. Check local regulations before riding. Practice areas are strictly limited and away from main swimming zones. Advanced level required to manage crowds and restrictions.

Warm water year-round (24-27°C/75-80°F), no wetsuit needed — a lycra is sufficient. The bottom is a mix of sand and coral reef. The offshore reef creates consistent waves, perfect for surfing. Water is relatively flat in the inner lagoon. Moderate currents in reef channels. Extremely crowded area — hundreds of surfers, stand-up paddlers, canoes, and tourist boats at all times.
EXTREMELY CROWDED AREA — density of swimmers, surfers, and watercraft among the highest in the world. Kitesurfing heavily regulated or prohibited — check local rules. Shallow coral reef — wear reef booties. Currents in reef channels. Protected sea turtles (honu) — legal distance required. Sharks occasionally reported. Humpback whales from December to April — 100 yards distance. Very high risk of collision with other water users.
