Keawakapu Beach is located on Maui's south coast at the junction between Kihei and Wailea. This beautiful white sand beach is one of the finest in South Maui. Northeast trade winds are channeled and accelerated by Haleakala, blowing from the north/northeast in the afternoon. The spot offers conditions suitable for intermediate riders with moderately choppy water. The beach is less crowded than the Kamaole Parks, providing more space. Sunsets are spectacular on this west-facing beach.

Warm water year-round (23-27°C/73-80°F), no wetsuit needed — a lycra is sufficient. The bottom is a mix of sand and coral reef. Water is moderately choppy in strong winds. Moderate lateral currents. The sandy beach offers comfortable launching and landing. Area shared with swimmers — vigilance required.
Shallow coral reef offshore — wear reef booties. Sea urchins present. Beach frequented by swimmers — be vigilant when launching and landing. Protected sea turtles (honu) — legal distance required. Sharks (tiger sharks) occasionally reported off South Maui. Humpback whales from December to April — federal law requires 100 yards distance. Lateral currents in strong winds.
