Bahia Beach is a kitesurfing spot located in the Ruskin/Apollo Beach area, on the east coast of lower Tampa Bay. The spot faces west toward the bay, with a protected water body and flat water conditions. In westerly winds (fronts, sea breeze), conditions are onshore with moderate chop. The spot is less known than Courtney Campbell or the Skyway but offers an interesting local alternative for south Tampa riders. The Apollo Beach area is known for manatees that frequent the warm waters from the nearby power plant.
Open all year round
Intermediate
The water body faces west toward Tampa Bay with sandy and muddy bottom. In westerly winds, moderate chop. Depth is moderate and varies with the tide. The water is warm but often murky in this part of the bay. Conditions are less clean than the gulf side but the bay offers good protected riding space.
Tidal currents in the bay, particularly near channels. In easterly winds, conditions are offshore — east-facing bay spots like Lassing Park are better. Muddy bottom in some areas. Watch for manatees — protected species, maintain distances. Boat and barge traffic.
