520 Slick is THE iconic kitesurfing spot of the Space Coast, located on the Banana River Lagoon near the SR-520 bridge between Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach. This lagoon offers absolutely perfect flat water conditions — the "slick" refers to the mirror-flat water area. The lagoon is very shallow (1-3 feet), allowing standing everywhere. It's the quintessential learning spot of Florida's central east coast, with numerous kite schools. The proximity to the Kennedy Space Center adds to the spot's unique character — it's not uncommon to see a rocket launch from the water!

The Banana River Lagoon offers an exceptional flat water body — one of the best in Florida. Sandy and seagrass bottom, depth of 1-3 feet. All wind directions work as the lagoon is surrounded by water in all directions. The water is warm but brackish (lagoon). Conditions are perfect for learning, freestyle and foiling. The riding space is immense in the lagoon.
Watch for stingrays in seagrass (stingray shuffle essential). Manatees frequent the lagoon — protected species, maintain distances and stop riding when nearby. Watch for restriction zones related to the Kennedy Space Center (security zones during launches). Mosquitoes possible in summer. Sun protection essential.
