Courtney Campbell Causeway is one of the most popular kitesurfing spots in the Tampa Bay area, located on the causeway connecting Tampa to Clearwater across Old Tampa Bay. This unique spot offers shallow water on both sides of the road, creating an ideal flat water playground in all wind directions. The bay is shallow (often less than 3 feet), allowing standing everywhere. It's THE learning spot for the Tampa area, comparable to Hobie Beach for Miami. Kite schools are numerous and the community very active.

The Old Tampa Bay water body is exceptionally flat and shallow on both sides of the causeway. Sandy bottom with seagrass. In any wind direction, there's always a side of the causeway offering favorable conditions. The water is warm (72-86°F) and depth rarely exceeds 5 feet. Perfect flat water conditions for learning, freestyle and foiling. The bay offers an immense riding area.
Watch for stingrays in seagrass (stingray shuffle). Road traffic on the causeway is heavy — be careful during launch and landing. Tidal currents exist in the bay. At low tide, some areas become very shallow. Watch for boat traffic in the bay channel. Parking along the causeway — respect parking rules.
