Whale Harbor Marina is a kitesurfing spot located in Islamorada on Upper Matecumbe Key, on the ocean (Atlantic) side. The spot is near the historic Whale Harbor marina, one of the most famous fishing ports in the Keys. The Atlantic side access offers more dynamic conditions than the bay, with chop and small waves possible in sustained easterly winds. The trade winds blow side-shore along the coast. The spot is easily accessible from US-1 with the lively Islamorada scene nearby.
The water body faces the Atlantic with a sandy and coral bottom. In easterly trade winds, moderate chop forms. In southeast winds, small waves of 1.5-3 feet are possible. The water is warm and turquoise. Depth is moderate with a gradual increase. The spot offers good conditions for freeride and freestyle in light chop.

Open all year round
Fishing and pleasure boat traffic is heavy around the marina — stay clear of the channel. Tidal currents along the coast can cause drift. Watch for coral bottom in certain areas. In northerly winds, conditions are offshore — do not ride.
