San Mateo is a coastal village located between Manta and Santa Marianita, in the Manabí province of Ecuador. The spot is mainly known for surfing, with world-class waves especially between December and March. For kitesurfing, San Mateo is primarily accessible via downwinder from Santa Marianita. The beach is rocky in places and the wind can be irregular. The southwest thermal wind blows from May to December, with intensities of 15 to 25 knots in the area. The spot is recommended for advanced riders due to rocks, waves, and sometimes unstable wind. However, it offers great kite-wave sessions for wave enthusiasts.
