Jericoacoara — "Jeri" to insiders — is one of the most legendary kitesurfing spots on the planet, nestled in a paradise village in northeastern Brazil (Ceará). A former fishing village accessible only by sand tracks, Jeri has become a world-renowned kite destination thanks to its ultra-consistent trade winds, turquoise freshwater lagoons, immense dunes and unique bohemian atmosphere. The wind season (July to December) offers daily conditions of 18 to 30 knots. Downwinders between spots along the coast are an unforgettable experience. Despite its tourist development, Jeri has preserved its authentic charm with sandy streets and the mythical sunset on the Dune do Pôr do Sol.
Jeri offers several spots depending on conditions and level. The main beach works with the NE side-onshore trade winds — ideal for freeride and waves. The lagoons (Lagoa do Paraíso, Lagoa Azul) 20-30 km away offer perfect flatwater for freestyle and learning, accessible by buggy. Downwinders along the coast (toward Preá, Tatajuba, or all the way to Camocim) are the main attraction: 30 to 100 km of riding along deserted beaches with buggy support. The spot works at all tides on the beach, but at low tide, sandbars create flat water areas inside.
Warm water year-round (27-29°C), boardshorts and lycra are sufficient. On the main beach: waves of 0.5 to 2 meters with sandy bottom, excellent for wave riding. The lagoons offer crystal-clear shallow freshwater (50 cm to 1.5 m), perfect for freestyle. During downwinders, the water varies between wave zones, flat sections and passages near the dunes. Moderate current toward the west on the main beach. The water is generally turquoise with excellent visibility.

Jericoacoara is a pedestrian village with sandy streets — no cars are allowed inside the village. Vehicles are parked at the parking lot at the village entrance (paid). Access to the village from Jijoca de Jericoacoara is by buggy or 4x4 on the beach and sand tracks (about 30 minutes). Pousadas and kite schools are within walking distance inside the village. For remote spots (lagoons), transport is by buggy.
Lateral current on the main beach that can pull downwind. Rocks in some coastal areas — check locally. Shore break at high tide. Very intense tropical sun — sun protection essential. At the lagoons, watch for shallow bottom that can cause injuries in falls. During downwinders: isolated areas without help in case of problems, occasional reefs and rocks, currents at river mouths. Possible theft — don't leave valuables on the beach. Jellyfish are rare but possible.
Northeast to easterly trade winds, among the most consistent in the world. The main season runs from July to December with daily winds of 18 to 30 knots. Wind picks up late morning and blows until evening. The months of August to November are the windiest with averages of 22-28 knots. The wind is side-onshore on the main beach. The northeast wind orientation creates perfect conditions for downwinders westward along the coast. Even in low season (February-June), sessions are possible with thermal breezes.
