Hazards

Cold water — full wetsuit necessary year-round. Dense kelp that can tangle in lines and fins. Great white sharks present in Monterey Bay. Drift currents along the coast. Frequent fog suddenly reducing visibility. Marine protected area — respect wildlife (sea otters in particular). Rocks at certain points along the beach.
