Friendly Cove (Yuquot) is a major historic site on Nootka Island, off the west coast of Vancouver Island. This is where Captain Cook made first European contact on Canada's west coast in 1778. The cove faces southwest toward the Pacific Ocean. Sacred site for the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations. Accessible only by boat from Gold River.

Extremely remote — boat/floatplane only. No on-site rescue. Pacific swell. Very cold water (5/4 wetsuit or drysuit). Rocks. Tidal currents. Bears, cougars and wolves. No cell coverage. Sacred First Nations site — respect the place and inhabitants. Reserved for self-sufficient experts.
