Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area is a unique spot located on California's central coast, near Pismo Beach in San Luis Obispo County. This vast dune complex is one of the few places in California where you can practice landkiting on the beach in addition to ocean kitesurfing. Northwest thermal winds are powerful and reliable. The immense sand dunes and endless beach provide an exceptional playground.

Off-road vehicles driving on the beach — major danger, stay alert at all times. Frequent rip currents. Powerful shore break on swell days. Cool water — wetsuit necessary. Frequent coastal fog. Strong wind can lift sand and reduce visibility. Unstable dunes — do not climb sand cliffs. Note: vehicular access to the dunes may be restricted — check current status.
