Alameda Beach is a kitesurfing spot located on Alameda Island in San Francisco Bay, California. This bay spot offers a semi-sheltered water body with moderate chop and benefits from the powerful northwest thermal winds that blow across the bay from May through October. The sandy beach offers good water access and spacious rigging area. It is an excellent urban spot with views of the San Francisco skyline.
Bay-style water body with moderate chop. Water is cold (11-16°C/52-61°F), a 4/3 or 3/2 wetsuit is necessary. Sandy and muddy bottom. Tidal currents present but moderate along the beach. No ocean waves in this sheltered part of the bay. Thermal wind creates regular surface chop in the afternoon.
