Lake Pleasant is a popular reservoir located 50 km northwest of Phoenix in the Sonoran Desert. This large lake offers excellent kitesurf conditions with reliable afternoon thermal winds generated by the thermal contrast between the desert and surrounding mountains. Lake Pleasant Regional Park features beaches, boat ramps, and amenities. Most accessible spot in the Phoenix area. Main season from April to October.

Freshwater with variable visibility. Water temperature from 10°C in winter to 29°C in summer. Large lake with good fetch in all directions. Moderate chop in thermal winds. Rocky and sandy bottom. Lake level varies with season and dam releases. Rashguard or shorty in summer, 3/2 wetsuit in spring/fall.
Extreme summer heat (45°C+): heat stroke and dehydration can be lethal — bring at least 3 liters of water. Heavy motorboat traffic on weekends. Rattlesnakes, scorpions, and cholla cactus around the lake. Violent monsoon thunderstorms July-September with lightning and dust storms (haboobs). Variable lake levels creating hidden shallows. Regional park entrance fee required.
