The Stausee Kelbra is a dam lake located in northern Thuringia, at the foot of the Kyffhäuser massif. This body of water of approximately 6 km² is one of the largest lakes in the region and offers excellent conditions for kitesurfing and wingfoil thanks to its large surface area exposed to the prevailing west and southwest winds.

The lake is also an important bird sanctuary, which may lead to seasonal navigation restrictions. Thermal winds develop well in summer over this vast flat body of water, offering pleasant sessions in a remarkable natural setting.
