Lemmer is a kitesurf spot on the IJsselmeer in Friesland, near the historic harbour town of Lemmer. Small bay with stone breakwaters, approximately 20m of standing-depth water before it gets deep. A spot with a strong local kite community. Wind direction SW only — the geographic bowl makes winds unstable from other directions.
⚠️ Kitesurf permitted October–May only (outside summer swimming season). Due to the breakwaters, the spot is very small and quickly crowded. For experienced riders only — deep water makes recovery difficult for beginners. Sky High Watersports school is present. Beach club Lemmer nearby for après-session. Camping on 50m distance.
Sky High Watersports (school + rental present on site). Several other mobile kite schools active in the area.
Kitesurf permitted October–May only (outside summer swimming season). SW wind only — other directions become offshore or gusty due to the geographic bowl. Very limited space due to stone breakwaters — launch in the water when crowded. Deep water beyond 20m — stay close to shore if unsure.
Flat to choppy IJsselmeer water. Deep beyond the first 20m — not beginner friendly. Freeride and foil for experienced riders. Short chop typical of IJsselmeer.
