Las Cucharas is the premier windsurf and kitesurf spot on the east coast of Lanzarote, located in the tourist resort of Costa Teguise. It's a beach in a semi-enclosed bay with an outer reef that creates left-hand waves breaking away from the shore.
The spot has hosted the Windsurf World Championship and is famous for its consistent conditions. The NE trade wind blows side-onshore, providing excellent wave riding and bump-and-jump conditions.
Las Cucharas is popular with all levels but can get very crowded during peak season with windsurfers, kitesurfers, foilers, and tourists. The tourist infrastructure of Costa Teguise is right at the beach with hotels, restaurants, and shops.
Launch from the sandy beach. Left-hand waves break over the outer reef, offering excellent wave riding. Between sets, choppy to flat sections for freestyle. Schools available for lessons and rental.
Left-hand waves 0.5–2m over outer reef. Sandy beach, reef offshore. Water 18–22°C. 3/2mm wetsuit.
