Kitesurf spot on Lac du Salagou (34), a 750 ha reservoir lake near Clermont-l'Hérault, at 138 m altitude. One of the most spectacular inland kite spots in France — red earth shores, turquoise water, surrounded by plateaus and hillside. Primarily a windsurf and wingfoil spot (Wind34 base/paillote); kitesurf is tolerated. Launch zone is on the left before the camping when arriving from Clermont-l'Hérault — do not go down to the shore, take the road on the left and use the grassy area near the paillote. Share space respectfully with the Wind34 operator. Natura 2000 protected site. Best season: spring–autumn. Winter lake water is very cold.
Open all year round
Advanced
NW (Tramontane) is the main direction — stronger here than on the Mediterranean coast as sea breezes don't dampen it. But surrounding hills create very irregular airflow with multiple dead zones across the water. Wind strength can swing from 10 to 25 kt in minutes — rides requiring constant anticipation. By NW, the barrage corridor is more consistent. SE also possible. Not a spot for regular, predictable sessions.
Small, tight launch zone near the paillote (Wind34 base) — shrubs and sharp grass can damage inflatable bladders, check before laying out. Many dead zones on the water due to surrounding hills — study the lake surface carefully before launching. Wind highly variable in strength (10 to 25 kt within minutes). Shore is red earth and sharp gravel — protective footwear recommended. Kitesurf is tolerated here but the site is primarily suited to windsurfing and wingfoil. Natura 2000 protected area — respect the environment.
