IJmuiderslag is the main year-round kitesurf zone (Zone 3) of the IJmuiden complex — the hub of the Noord-Holland kite community south of IJmuiden harbour. Wide North Sea beach with consistent wind, beach club Hightide (official PLKB test center) and kite school APEX Adventures on site.
Zone 3: open year-round for kitesurf, windsurf, wave surf, SUP and foil. Zone 4 (adjacent): closed in high season. Free pedestrian zone 40m from tide line. Hot showers and restaurant at Hightide. 30 min from Amsterdam. The best-equipped spot on the Noord-Holland coast.
Beach club Hightide (official PLKB test center, kite shop, hot showers, open 7 days/week). Kiteschool APEX Adventures (IKO/VDWS certified). Beach-In beach club. Both located at IJmuiderslag Zone 3.
Park at top of steep access road — ~300m descent to beach. Summer: 2h max free then re-pay every 2h. Alternative: park at Zuidpier (Zone 1) and walk along beach. GPS: IJmuiderslag, IJmuiden, Noord-Holland. Access from A9/A22 direction IJmuiden then beach.
North Sea — choppy to light waves. Currents in Zone 3 can be strong offshore. Year-round. Cold: 3/2mm summer, 5/4mm winter.

Parking at the top of the access road to IJmuiderslag. Steep descent to beach (~300m). Alternative: park at Zuidpier and walk along the beach. Summer: 2h max free parking.
Currents in Zone 3 can be strong. Long walk to beach from parking. ⚠️ Shipwreck at the north kite zone of Castricum aan Zee (different spot, not IJmuiderslag).
SW/W/NW/N/NE all onshore. SW dominant. Consistent sea breeze year-round. Best Oct–Mar. Zone 3 more exposed than Zone 1. Good for after-work sessions from Amsterdam.
