Bay of Fires

Overview

Bay of Fires is an exceptional kitesurfing spot located on the northeast coast of Tasmania. Bay of Fires is regularly ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the world, famous for its granite rocks covered in bright orange lichen, its pristine white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water. It is an iconic Tasmanian location.

The dominant wind comes from the northwest to north in summer, blowing offshore to cross-offshore on this east coast. Waves are moderate and the water is incredibly clear. The bottom is sandy with characteristic granite rocks. The beach stretches over 50 km.

The best season is from November to March. The spot is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders. The water is cold (14-18 degrees C), a thick wetsuit is necessary. The northern area is accessible by road, the southern area requires a hike. It is a spot that offers a kitesurfing experience in a world-renowned natural setting.

Accommodation is available in Binalong Bay to the south. Camping is possible in some areas. It is a must-visit destination for any kitesurfer visiting Tasmania.
