Busse Entry is the entrance spot of Busse Lagoon, located on the southeast coast of Sakhalin Island. Busse Lagoon is a large saltwater body separated from the Sea of Okhotsk by a barrier beach, with a narrow entrance.
The lagoon water body offers relatively flat and sheltered conditions, contrasting with the rougher Sea of Okhotsk. The bottom is sandy to muddy. At the lagoon entrance, currents can be strong during tidal changes.
Prevailing winds come from the south and southeast in summer. The kite season is short, from July to September. Water is cold (10-18°C), full wetsuit required. Sakhalin is remote, self-sufficiency in gear and safety is essential.
