Maketu Estuary is an estuarine spot located in the Bay of Plenty, east of Tauranga. This estuary offers a flat and shallow body of water, ideal for learning kitesurfing and wingfoil. The bottom is sandy. NE and E winds are the most favourable. The spot is suitable for beginners thanks to the flat water of the estuary. Tides create currents in the channels. Maketu is a historic Maori village known for its fresh fish (Maketu Pies).
