Mangawai Heads is a kitesurfing spot located on the east coast of Northland, about an hour north of Auckland. The beach faces east, towards the Pacific Ocean, and is popular with kitesurfers from Auckland and Northland. Northeast to east winds are onshore and the most frequent in summer. Southeast winds are side-shore. The sandy beach is wide with good waves for surfing and wave-riding on a kite. Currents can be present near the estuary mouth. Spot for intermediate riders.
