Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque — Base Militaire (Ancienne Base d'Hydravions) — South shore of Étang de Salses-Leucate. Historic seaplane base built in 1924, now one of the most popular kite spots in the region — especially since kite bans on other nearby spots.
Large open spot on the étang with plenty of space. Wind is a few knots LESS than at La Franqui — perfect fallback. Riders in 5m at La Franqui can come here and sail with a 7m. By strong Tramontane: nice swell builds on the étang for impressive jumps.
On the road between Barcarès and Carrefour Claira, exit "Base nautique". The spot has become the gathering place for all kiters in the area.
Spot used by many local kite schools for Tramontane sessions. Kitoo, SurfandKite and others operate here. Historical site: former seaplane base built in 1924.
Étang water. Shallow in places. By Tramontane: nice chop/swell builds — good for jumping. Large open water, plenty of space. Sandy/muddy bottom. By strong Tramontane: impressive waves on the étang for big jumps.

Open all year round
Year-round. Very popular — come early. Works mainly by Tramontane NW. The go-to étang spot when others are banned or too strong. Recommended by locals when kite is banned at Canet by Tramontane (offshore dangerous).
From road between Barcarès and Carrefour Claira, exit "Base nautique", Avenue de l'Aviation, 66250 Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque. Parking on site. Large open area.
Strong Tramontane: can be very powerful. When riders are in 5m at La Franqui, here you can sail with a 7m — but still strong. Large swell by strong Tramontane: nice for jumping but powerful. Crowded: since kitesurf bans on other spots, this has become THE gathering point for all kiters in the area.
Tramontane (NW/N): main wind. A few knots LESS than La Franqui/Goulet — allows riding a size bigger. By baston: impressive swell for jumping. Marin (SE): also works, onshore. Key fallback spot: when Canet is offshore-dangerous or when other étang spots are too crowded or banned. Since interdiction on some spots: all kiters converge here.
