Psalidi is a kitesurfing spot on the northeast coast of Kos, east of Kos Town, facing the Bodrum peninsula in Turkey (only 4km away). This spot benefits from a unique position in the narrow strait between Kos and Turkey, where the Meltemi is channeled and strengthened. The beach mixes sand and pebbles with water that becomes deep quickly. Psalidi is popular for its consistent wind and spectacular setting with views of the Turkish coastline.
Psalidi works with the channeled NW/NNW Meltemi in the Kos-Turkey strait. Side-onshore wind offers good riding conditions with a mix of chop and short waves due to limited fetch. Water gets deep quickly — this is not a school spot. Watch for drift: side-onshore wind pushes offshore (toward Turkey) — you need to be able to ride upwind. Riding zone along the coast staying at reasonable distance from shore. Do not venture into the middle of the strait (maritime traffic).
Waters of the Kos-Turkey strait, 22-26°C in summer. 2mm shorty sufficient. Mixed sand/pebble/rock bottom that drops quickly. Short choppy waves due to limited fetch in the strait (4km). Current in the strait can be significant. Water rougher than other north coast spots due to acceleration through the passage.

Open all year round
Parking along the coastal road connecting Kos Town to Psalidi and Agios Fokas. Roadside spaces and beachfront hotel parking. Easy access from Kos Town (3-4 km east). Possible to cycle from the city center via the coastal bike path.
Drift toward Turkey possible if unable to ride upwind — do not sail here without mastering upwind riding. Strong current in the strait. Maritime traffic (ferries, cruise ships, cargo) in the strait — never sail in the middle. Deep water quickly — not suitable for beginners. Wind can exceed 30 knots without warning. Rocky bottom in some areas — foot protection recommended. Maritime border with Turkey — stay on the Greek side.
Psalidi benefits from a powerful Venturi effect in the strait between Kos and the Bodrum peninsula (Turkey). The Meltemi arrives from NW/NNW, channeled through this narrow 4km passage, which significantly strengthens the wind. Typical strength of 18-30 knots in summer, among the windiest conditions on Kos. Wind is side-onshore on this NE-facing coast, pushing riders toward the Turkish coast if they're not careful. Very consistent and laminar wind thanks to the channeling effect. Strong season from June to September.
