Psili Ammos is a spot on Samos's southeast coast, in the Mycale Strait facing Turkey. Like Mykali Beach, the Meltemi (N/NNE) is OFFSHORE here, pushing toward Turkey very close by (~2km). The spot only works in southerly wind. Psili Ammos means "fine sand" — the beach is one of the finest on Samos with its golden sand. The water is flat thanks to the very short fetch of the strait.
Riding in southerly wind only. Launch from the fine sand beach. Flat water in the strait. No kite center. Very popular tourist beach in summer — share space with swimmers.
Open all year round
Intermediate
Ultra-flat water in the strait (~2km fetch). Fine sand bottom, gradually deepening. Ideal freestyle conditions in southerly wind.
Parking at Psili Ammos, accessible from Samos's southeast coastal road. The beach is popular in summer — arrive early for parking.
DANGER: Meltemi (N/NNE) OFFSHORE — pushes toward Turkey (~2km). NEVER ride in northerly wind. Works only in southerly wind: SE/SSE (side-onshore), S (onshore), SSW/SW (side-onshore). Southerly winds more frequent in spring/autumn. The strait offers flat water conditions in southerly wind thanks to minimal fetch.
DANGER: Turkish border ~2km away. Meltemi pushes OFFSHORE toward Turkey. Sensitive military zone. Many swimmers in summer. NEVER ride in northerly wind. VHF and phone mandatory. Ride with company only.
