La Palmyre / Bonne Anse is a kitesurf spot on the Arvert peninsula facing the Gironde estuary. A pleasant spot with the backdrop of the famous La Palmyre zoo and pine forest. FFVL-labelled spot.
Arrive via the Avenue de l'Atlantique, park and continue on the footpath to the Bonne Anse bay. The takeoff and landing zone is marked by orange buoys. Self-organised spot with local etiquette. The bay is sheltered from Atlantic swell but tidal currents apply — check before launching.
Open all year round
Open year-round. Best season: April to October. South to southwest wind provides the main window. The zoo and forest make this a pleasant all-day destination. FFVL-labelled spot.
Intermediate
Sheltered bay with flat to slightly choppy water. Sandy bottom, significant tidal range. Protected from Atlantic swell by the Arvert peninsula. South and southwest winds give cross-onshore conditions with manageable chop 0.2 to 0.5m. The bay dries significantly at low tide — check before going.
South-southeast to northwest winds are the main window, with south and southwest being optimal. The bay orientation means the wind arrives cross-onshore, giving excellent riding conditions. The Arvert peninsula provides protection from the Atlantic, so this spot works when nearby ocean beaches are too rough or offshore.
